Well, here goes! Student teaching starts in 2 weeks, after all this time. I quit my inane job to go back to school to become a high school history teacher. Lots of prerequisite classes first, because I didn't have all those useful classes in college the first time around - things like history and geography and sociology. Stuff that can get you a job. [Side note: Juco really *is* different from regular college, which I learned by taking some prereq classes at the seattle community college.]
So that's done and now i'm in college in Seattle with the big kids, halfway through a teacher training program and about to start student teaching at a local public high school. Government class for 12th graders and maybe economics. I don't know crap about econ so that'll be a trick. I guess that's what makes this The Incredible True Story of How One Old Guy Went Back To School and Made Hisself a Teacher.
I started this bl*g because I went looking for good teaching blongs and found dang little. Are there good ones out there? Hellooooo? Tell me if there are, I'd read 'em for sure.
So next week I meet with my Cooperating Teacher -- that's what we call 'em -- about what I'll be doing during student teacher time. And how in the world I'll teach anybody anything about econ. [Econ has always been a four letter word in my house. O the irony of me teaching it now.]
Stay tuned for white hot updates from the field. ["from the field" - that's more insider talk there.]
